Some basic camera tips

Hi, as promised im going to give you some basic camera tips. I know this is a blog about lee archer photography but it doesnt hurt to pass on some info so you can take better photos.
Il aim the advice at the beginner dslr user.
The first thing alot of people do when buying a new dslr is buy a big zoom lens, but before you part with your hard earned cash, think what you need the camera for, or what youll want to take photos of the most.

Some of the basic kit lenses are great, not really award winners but can deliver great results. I use Canon so il mostly cover that make. They usually come with a 18-55mm lens, which is nice for most photos, obviously the scope depends what size sensor you have, incase you dont understand what i mean il quickly explain. Most dslr are on a crop sensor, so its not a full 35mm sensor, it magnifies the lens image by 1.6. where as a full frame sensor is 1, as its a full 35mm. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crop_factor

If you want to photograph wildlife then youll probably need a big zoom, so aim for 200mm lens - 400mm so you can get close without spooking the animals. Canon do a 55-250mm lens, but youll not fit much in at close range on a crop sensor. 70-300 is also a good lens. http://www.the-digital-picture.com/reviews/canon-ef-s-55-250mm-f-4-5.6-is-lens-review.aspx

For flowers and general close up youll be ok with a kit lens, yes theres great alternatives like the L series lenses which are top notch, but to learn the basic lens are fine, you can get a good lens with IS which is Image Stabaliser, this will take some of the hand shaking out of the picture for better results, but this doesnt account for movement of an object. http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/canon_18-55_3p5-5p6_is_c16/

For landscapes you need a nice wide angle lens, and on the crop (1.6) sensor youll need wider to get the benefit. A good guide is a sigma 10-20mm lens, very little zoom, but very wide angle to fit loads into the picture, so a mountain would fit in even if you were pretty close. there are varients you can get and the kit lens at 18mm at widest will give you nice photos, and even better on a full frame sensor.
You can get some good effects if you get really close to a subject with a very wide angle lense, makes them creative. http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-sigma-10-20mm-f3-5-ex-dc-hsm-lens-canon-fit/p1032428

Tripods are essential to landscapes and alot of close up shots, especially where light is limited but il
expand on the finer details of why we choose certain lenses next time, but in the meantime if you have any questions contact me through my site.

New products

Hi, well its a gorgeous day here in Doncaster. Really feeling the sun through my office window, anyway, i thought id just tell you about our products.
We dont just give you the prints and thats it, and although we sell a vast range of top quality products, we dont do the pressure selling im told some of the big companies do. I keep hearing about 'the room' where they show you the results and have you in tears then say "yey, heres a bill for £1500". No were not like that, and thus dont make as much money, but love what we do.
You view the photos in your own time in your own private gallery, you then choose the free print/s and that can be the end of it if you wish.
Should you wish to purchase something wonderful to display your images then we can help.
We do:-
Canvas prints, these are hand made, rock solid and ready to hang, wont warp in the heat. Same great product some others want the earth for, but we sell for a fair price.

Framed Prints, a wide variety of frames all hande made to order, all colours etc styles. These are the best quality on offer.

Acrylic Art, these have the wow factor, from desktop acrylics to wall acrylics. Some are really thick and give a 3d effect. Totally gorgeous.

Then we can do all the gift idea items, mugs, mousemats, key rings, the lot. All great quality.
I must point out we dont sell the cheap and nasty canvas and frames some will offer, theres deals on the net which almost give them away, just check there solid and well made before you go for the bargain.

I hope you all have a great day, come back soon for some photography tips and advice.

Thursdays Blog

Hi, thanks for coming by to view the blog, this week we have been in the Doncaster Frenchgate Centre to show off some of our products, it was a very busy day but it was nice to speak to the people we did meet.
The centre staff are very helpful so a big thanks to them. I was taken on a tour by a cleaner when I couldnt find the parking office so a big thanks to her too.
We will be at a few other places once we decide on a budget, and will  certainly return to the Frenchgate. If you have any ideas on special offers you would like to see then please email me, im open to ideas.

The weather here today in Harworth is really nice, the garden is a lovely location for a photo shoot, the backdrop is wild flowers, old trees and some slate wall, its lovely. Lifestyle photoshoots can be alot of fun too. I still love photo shoots in my home studio and the portraits always look great.

Please visit me on facebook, when you get there click the like button, theres often special offers for the group. thankyou.

Gorgeous Weather.

Hello, i cant believe how lovely the weather is today. Ive been out delivering the products people have bought from me, canvas and prints mostly. The customers were really happy, the products complimented the portrait sessions we did in my studio and there homes.

I was going to take some random photos when out but struggled to find something different. Its not great around here for landscapes, so will have to travel. Working on some commercial photography this week, which I will really enjoy. I will be at the Retford b4b meeting early in the morning, its a good networking event, nice breakfast too, so far ive met some good contacts from there.

Im still suprised people are booking weddings for 2012, another booking yesterday. Its looking like 2012 will be a very busy year. Some more weddings coming up soon so keep an eye out for my diary.

Im really excited to be getting some new studio lights this week, invested in some even better products to give more creative flare. Bowens are a top class studio light, only the best for my customers.
The mothers day deal is nice and cheap, we all love our mums so ive done a deal that will make it easy for anyone to have a shoot, £17.99 with a free print. Great value, also vouchers available, all they will say is voucher for photo shoot, or any messege you would like on it.

Well, its nearly time for some food, so il update again soon, in the meantime, please join my facebook group.

Weddings starting to book

Hi everyone, its the middle of march and the year is flying by, lee archer photography is taking more wedding bookings, which is good, so ive added some wedding package prices to the website. http://www.leearcherphotography.co.uk/ so you can view and see what you think. Theres something for most budgets, but I dont want to seem price orientated, the service i provide is great, very personal and the after sales service will take some beating.
Its been a busy month in a strange way, arranging new products, sorting out the display banner for the fayres and centres. Also my fitness photography department photo-flex is starting to get busier. I do alot for a magazine as ive probably mentioned and hope to help that grow more this year with exciting articles. I dont have a set working hours so ive plenty of time for crucial editing of your photo shoots.
Theres alot of photographers in doncaster at the minute, more than I thought, so get proper quotes, ask whats hidden, with me nothing is hidden, so you can rest assured youll pay what quoted, and you can pay by credit or debit card too, spreading the cost, see my previous blog.
I hope your all well, take care

Credit and debit cards

Hi again, Ive just completed a deal to take credit and debit cards for my photography service, this will make it so much easier for people to purchase my products. Frames and canvas prints although really good prices still can be too much for some, I hope this will make it better for you all. I know i like to put bigger purchases on the card, Ive also been looking at offering finance but I'm not prepared to do it if it means high interest for you all, so IL come back to that.

Ive had a busy week, plenty of editing and working on a banner for public displays, Fayre's etc. Also just received my t shirts with my logo on them, so il stand out when out and about, stop me and ask questions if you like, i don't mind. And feel free to ask anything, nothing is hidden with me or my business.

The summer will soon be here, and Yorkshire photographers will be busy and covering all aspects of work, we all have our niche, some just do weddings, some just babies, a lady in harworth is so good with specialist baby photos, yeah i do them, but hers are that bit more different, id happily pass her info on if you email.
For some the idea of competition means they will do anything to win business, but for those that love photography and take pride in it we respect each other, and yes we do pass work on if someone is a specialist in that field.
I love doing portraits, weddings, product and commercial, but I also love it when the fitness season starts and I can capture those special moments, for some when they compete they have planned for months and put there heart and soul into the competition, a little like the couple planning the wedding, so much detail that has to be right, I love seeing the happy faces of the wedding couple, same as the winner at a show.

I love what I do, and intend to capture memories for many many years. I also wish the new studio in my village the best of luck, we all have different styles so im sure we will work in the same village fine, ive seen the work and its good, so its upto the customer to use who they wish,
until next time, take care
